The Society for the Conservation and Study of Caribbean Birds (SCSCB) has produced a poster for the festival this year highlighting our theme of global warming. Our sincere thanks to Rolando Ata for creating the magnificent painting for the poster! The painting depicts some of the impacts of global warming in the Caribbean and the birds and habitats that are threatened by these impacts. We have added some brief text describing the impacts and what individuals can do to help fight global warming.
The poster has been printed and English versions shipped to all festival coordinators in English-speaking countries. Spanish versions are being printed in-country in the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico. A French version is being printed in Guadeloupe. See images below.

Suggested activities for the 2007 CEBF, highlighting the theme of global warming:
Organize a movie night of the award winning documentary by Al Gore “An Inconvenient Truth.” (all coordinators should have received a copy of the DVD). After the movie, discuss with audience members what they can do to help stop global warming. Consider having each person fill out and sign a pledge card stating one action that they will take.
At CEBF activities such at bird/nature walks, display booths, church services, art exhibitions, etc., display and handout the CEBF global warming poster and hand out the fact sheet on global warming.
Sponsor a poster competition about global warming in your schools or community. Encourage students to do research on the topic (give them the fact sheet with web sites listed to get them started). Award prizes for the best poster(s) and display them in a prominent place (e.g., library). Ideas for themes for the artwork include:
Deliver one or more of the activities on global warming (Activity 4-B - Warming Up!) described on pages 118 – 122 in Wondrous West Indian Wetlands: Teachers’ Resource Book. The activity provides background information on global warming, copy cat page illustrations, and ideas for 5 different activities—for example, calculate your family’s greenhouse gas emissions and actions you can take to lower your emissions (Personal Emissions calculator). Click here to download Activity 4-B (9.5 MB PDF). NOTE: be sure to use the emissions calculator linked here on this web page as the one listed in the activity no longer has an active link.
Deliver a Careers in Climate Change activity for high school age students - click here
Give a PowerPoint presentation about global warming – what it is, projected impacts for the Caribbean and what individuals can do to help.
Organize a panel discussion for your local radio station about the issue of global warming: how it will affect your country and what individuals, groups and government can do to help stop the problem.
Be sure to arrange media coverage of your events!
